What is NIT (PIS / Pasep)? How to consult and what is the function of the document

O Worker Identification Number (NIT) is assigned by Social Security to citizens who wish to register in the General Social Security System (RGPS) and contribute, on a monthly basis, to obtain social security benefits.

Eleven characters make up the NIT. These numbers are similar to the PIS/Pasep, but it refers to the registration of the person as an individual taxpayer (CI), optional, special, domestic employee or self-employed worker.

NIT Consultation

The worker can consult the NIT through the Work and Social Security Card, on the page that identifies the person.

The consultation can still be carried out by calling 135, referring to the Social Security Service Center.

In addition, the NIT can also be printed on the Identity Card (RG), on newer models, on the Bolsa Família Card or on the Citizen Card.

Consult NIT on the Social Security website

For consult the NIT for the Social Security website is required:

1. Select "enrollment".
2. Click on the “Affiliate” option.
3. Fill in the requested data.
4. Enter the check text.
5. Click continue.

According to the steps, the NIT will be informed on the next screen.

Consult NIT through My INSS

Access the My INSS website and check how to query the NIT:

1. Click on “register password” if you do not have a gov.br account.
2. Click on “enter” and access the platform.
3. Click on “my registration” in the top bar.

If all the data match, the NIT will be displayed on the next screen.
