O Ministry of Education (MEC) plans to revoke an ordinance that established deadlines for changes in secondary education in Brazil. As a result, the implementation of changes in the National Secondary Education Examination (Enem), which was scheduled for 2024, has been postponed.
However, the introduction of the new model in classrooms, which began in 2022, still during the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), will not be affected by the decision of the current government, led by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

This means that public and private schools will be able to continue offering a curriculum containing the so-called training itineraries (study paths), chosen by students, which are one of the main pillars of the reform of the High school.
In addition, an adaptation of the Enem was planned to adapt to this New High School. However, the government's decision is to temporarily maintain the current format of the test.
Despite the impact generated by the news of a supposed revocation of the New Secondary School, the MEC had not yet decided on the changes Enem would receive. The Ministry planned to decide on these changes later this year.
With that, it is correct to say that the recent decision of the portfolio led by Minister Camilo Santana (PT) does not mean the revocation of the change. Some groups even ask for this revocation, which, however, can only be done by the National Congress, as it was instituted by law.
When asked about the subject, in an interview given to the Diário do Nordeste newspaper last Monday (03), Minister Camilo Santana said that he will suspend the changes, but not revoke them.
“It's not just about coming in and revoking. It is necessary to discuss. That's what we need to do. I hope that in these 90 days of the ordinance, we can make a decision and we must suspend any change in Enem in relation to 2024 due to this issue of New Secondary Education”, he said.
On the other hand, recently President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva published on social networks that secondary education would undergo changes.
This statement comes at the same time as the news that a new text is being prepared by the MEC to replace the previous ordinance, which was from July 2021.
In addition, it is expected that the deadlines for changing the Basic Education Assessment System (Saeb), which assesses students in the 3rd year of high school, will also be modified by the folder.
