Barbara's project aimed to find a way to obtain potable water. Therefore, she improved the creation of a portable bottle capable of transforming any water into drinkable water through radiation, composed of a filter charged with sunlight.
With this invention, she won the Brazilian stage, where she competed with 442 people last year. Now, in the final stretch, Bárbara traveled to Istanbul, Turkey, in order to meet the other winners of the world prize.
“The project is also being developed thinking about making life easier for athletes and campers, but the main focus is to democratize drinking water for people who do not have access to basic sanitation”, said Barbarian.
According to her, the idea came up when she was studying her master's degree, which is referring to the sterilization of parasites via radiation in a program in the Materials Engineering sector from UFOP.
However, Bárbara did not win the highest prize available in the competition, which was awarded to an American duo, named “Jotted”. They have developed an online study program to help many students who have academic difficulties. The goal is to make it an application that will be accessed by the public.
