ProUni grants full and partial scholarships for undergraduate and sequential specific training courses at private higher education institutions. On the other hand, the program offers tax exemption to institutions that adhere to the program.
The students who are selected can also apply for a Permanence Scholarship, to help with the costs of their studies, and can also use the Student Loan Fund to finance part of the tuition not covered by the scholarship program.
The number of scholarships offered in this edition is the highest since the beginning of the program in 2005. Full scholarships, which cover all student fees, increased in relation to the 113,800 scholarships offered in the first edition of the program last year. The number of partial grants offered this year, which cover 50% of these costs, has reduced compared to the 129,100 offered in 2018.
Since the creation of the program, until 2016, with the exception of 2008, the number of full scholarships has always exceeded the number of partial scholarships in the first editions. In 2017, the situation was reversed and the number of full scholarships became smaller than the number of partial scholarships.
In addition, it was lower than the scholarships of the same type offered in 2016. Last year, the offer of 100% scholarships increased again, but the number continued to be lower than that of partial scholarships. In this edition, the situation remains.
Regarding partial scholarships, they have been growing since 2014, when around 60 thousand scholarships were offered, an increase compared to the 53.6 thousand of the previous year. This is the first drop since then.
According to the Ministry of Education (MEC), ProUni has already served more than 2.47 million students, 69% of whom have full scholarships.
