Created in 1968, the FNDE is responsible for implementing the educational policies established by the Ministry of Education (MEC). It is informally called the MEC bank, because it transfers federal resources to the education systems of the states, the Federal District and municipalities.
The FNDE finances programs for school lunches, textbooks, libraries, acquisition of equipment, broadband in schools, implementation of day care centers and school transport, for example. The money is transferred to federal entities based on constitutional provisions, provisions in law and voluntary agreements.
Last Wednesday (9), the minister canceled the public notice for the National Textbook Program (PNLD), under the responsibility of the FNDE, due to errors in the text. According to a note from the MEC, the text was produced by the previous management and sent to the FNDE on December 28.
