There are smaller populations of these birds that are scattered across South America. Their popularity as pets, along with slow development and massive habitat loss, has threatened the wild hyacinth macaw population.

Cannabidiol found in common plant in Brazil brings new perspective…
The parrot family species is now protected by law in Bolivia and Brazil. Blue Macaws are known to be relatively uniform birds. Popularly known as “gentle giants”, these parrots are extremely intelligent and have demonstrated a facility with the use of objects, both in captivity and in the wild.
They can also learn to speak, but they are not among the best in this regard. This bird, if kept in captivity without adequate socialization and ample space to move and exercise, can become neurotic and even aggressive.
Their lifespan in the wild is between 50 and 60 years. Captive birds, on the other hand, can live even longer if well treated.
At approximately 100 centimeters in length, the hyacinth macaw is considered the largest parrot on the planet.
These animals feed on fruits, seeds and nuts, especially on two types of palm trees: Bocaiúva and Acuri. Birds have dry, smooth tongues with a bone inside. This makes it easier to ingest these items.
The breeding season is between the months of July and December. They usually make nests in tree cavities. A hyacinth macaw usually lays one or two eggs, but in most cases only one chick ends up being born. The incubation of the eggs lasts about a month and the chicks depend on their parents for up to six months of life.
Hyacinth macaws don't breed every year, even under the best of circumstances, so predation on chicks is particularly bad for the survival of the species.
Hyacinth Macaws have only one partner their entire life. In captivity, the bird's owner is often considered by the bird as its partner. They become attached to their owner and can be quite jealous.
Hyacinth macaw habitat has been lost to hydroelectric power development. Vast areas of its former riverine habitat have been flooded by dam construction. Modification of its natural environment through human encroachment has become a significant threat.
