One of the biggest challenges that almost every student faces is being able to focus on their studies. Preparing for tests such as the Vestibular and Enem requires a lot of dedication. There is a lot to study and there is a lot of competition, especially for those who want to join a popular course. It is important, therefore, that the student is able to study effectively to optimize their performance in the tests. To study effectively, you need to be able to focus on your studies. In this blog, we offer eight tips for you to improve your concentration in your studies, especially if you are preparing for the Vestibular and Enem.
A preparatory course for the Vestibular and the Enem, whether in person or online, is not essential, but highly recommended. It is undeniable that many students were successful in the Vestibular without having taken a preparatory course. However, one of the advantages of a good preparatory course is that it helps the student to organize his studies. Thus, it becomes easier to study with discipline and concentration.
Even if you take a preparatory course, in person or online, it is advisable to draw up your own study plan. There are courses that provide a generic study plan, but ideally it should be personalized. For example, if your most difficult subject is Mathematics, your study plan should allocate more time to studying that subject.
A good study plan helps the student to organize himself. This makes it easier to focus on studies. Thus, there is less chance of the student losing focus when preparing for the exams he will take.
It is counterproductive to try to study difficult subjects when you are mentally drained. Exhaustion often results in a lack of concentration. When you're tired, it's much harder to concentrate. Therefore, it is not enough for the student to be disciplined and study hard to be successful in the Vestibular and Enem. It is also necessary that you study intelligently.
Identify the times of day when your mind is rested and use them to dedicate yourself to the hardest subjects to understand. In most cases, the ideal is to study in the morning, after a good night's sleep. However, there are people who are able to concentrate better at night.
Many students read or attend a class, but fail to assimilate what was transmitted. This often happens, especially when the student is not concentrating on what he or she reads or hears. One way to prevent this from happening is to take notes.
As you study a lecture, write down the most important concepts and prepare a brief summary of the lecture. This will help you to focus and retain the lesson content more easily. Also, notes and summaries are extremely useful: you should review them periodically, especially in the days leading up to exams.
After studying a lesson, answer questions that test the concepts conveyed by it. Answering questions is a way to avoid studying passively, without concentration. Not being able to answer the questions correctly means that you didn't understand the lesson or that you didn't concentrate when studying it.
Don't be surfing the Internet, accessing Facebook or replying to messages on your cell phone while studying. Surfing the Internet is a temptation, especially for those who study using a computer, tablet or cell phone. Resist this temptation! You can browse the Internet or exchange messages with friends during study breaks.
Do not study in places where there is noise or people talking. Do not study with the television on. The ideal is not to even listen to music while studying, as this can also impair concentration.
Try to study in a quiet place. The mind can assimilate concepts more easily when there is no noise pollution. Try to study in a place where you won't be interrupted or distracted.
Sleep well, eat well and exercise. It is important to find ways to reduce physical and mental stress. Lack of sleep, exhaustion, hunger and stress impair concentration and learning. During the exam period, do not do radical regimes, such as low carbohydrate, which results in physical and mental fatigue. Don't skimp on sleep either, even if it's to dedicate yourself to studying. It is preferable to study fewer hours with a rested mind than to study until very late at night, sleep little and wake up exhausted.
It is also inadvisable to stop doing physical activities during the period of preparation for the Vestibular and Enem. There are students who claim that study time should not be wasted to practice physical activities. However, scientific studies show that physical activity relieves stress and helps concentration and memory. They constitute, therefore, an investment of time that helps the student to concentrate on his studies and, consequently, improve his performance in the tests.
