It is essential that students know the difference between uppercase and lowercase letters, and know how the rules apply to each of them. Therefore, we selected some activities about capital and lowercase letters and also explained a little about them. Enjoy!
Capital letters
When writing, we use uppercase and lowercase letters, which vary according to the words. Capital letters are used at the beginning of sentences, which continue to be written with lowercase letters. If in the middle of the sentence there is any first name, the names of people or animals, this must also be written in capital letters.
Example: I went for a walk at Aunt Mariana's house and played with her kitten Mimi.
Capital letters are also used to write the names of Countries, States and Cities, as they are also their proper names. This should happen, even if such names appear in the middle or at the end of the sentence.
Example: The only five-time world cup champion country is Brazil.
River names must also be written in capital letters.
Example: The Amazon River is located in the northern region of Brazil.
Small letters
To write names of things or objects, we use lowercase. They are called common names and are therefore written in lowercase letters.
Example: I went out with my cousin for ice cream. Then we stopped by the newsstand and bought a magazine.
Rewrite the text, using capital and lowercase letters correctly:
