HIV is the human immunodeficiency virus, a sexually transmitted infection that causes AIDS, which stands for Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. AIDS is still a disease without a cure, but Medicine has been developing increasingly effective treatments that delay its progress, as well as the resulting complications.
UNAIDS is a United Nations program created in 1996 whose objective is to point out solutions and work in the fight against AIDS. Its portal gathers the most recent statistics on HIV in Brazil and in the world. Information published by the institution shows that, last year, 36.9 million people worldwide were living with the virus.

Even in the face of so much information about the forms of transmission and prevention, there is still prejudice against those who live with the disease. Discrimination extends from the community at large to those who provide health services. Therefore, institutions have joined considerable efforts to change this situation.
The University of São Paulo (USP), in partnership with the United Nations (UN), has just opened enrollment for courses on the subject. “Communication and Zero Discrimination in HIV/AIDS” and “HIV and Zero Discrimination in Health Services” are offered by the USP Diversity Program and offer 100 vacancies.
Opportunities will be held at USP units in São Paulo and Ribeirão Preto. Each one will last four hours and receives students and professionals from the areas of Communication, Health and Management. Enrollment, as well as courses, are free and can be done through the program websites on each campus.
