The problem lies in the toilet paper used to line the toilet, which, being rough and absorbent, becomes the ideal place for the bacteria released during flushing to settle.

This is especially true when the roll of paper is very close to the vase and has no adequate protection.

After each flush, airborne fecal bacteria land directly on the paper, being absorbed and building up over time with constant use of the public restroom.

According to experts, most bacteria present on public toilet seats are considered "common" and usually do not pose major health problems.

Agents that cause sexually transmitted infections (STIs), for example, survive for a few seconds outside the human body and are rarely found in these environments.

The risks are more significant in specific situations, such as when there are open wounds on the skin, which can facilitate certain infections.

For blood-borne illnesses, third-party bodily fluids would have to be directly placed on the lesions to cause infection.

How to protect yourself then?

Safe alternatives to protecting yourself from contamination in public restrooms include using handkerchiefs disinfectants to clean the seat before sitting down, or even take a sanitary pad with you disposable.

Furthermore, expertsrecommend caution when touching other areas of the bathroom, which can also be deposits of microorganisms, and emphasize the importance of frequent hand washing.

Another common practice, such as squatting instead of sitting directly on the seat, also brings its concerns. Experts point out that this position can be problematic for women over time.

In this sense, it is evident that hygiene and adequate care in public restrooms are fundamental to prevent contamination and guarantee the healthof users.
