According to the FDA, the associated symptoms to postpartum depression (PPD) can include feelings of sadness, reduced energy, suicidal thoughts, decreased ability to experience pleasure, and cognitive difficulties.

Surveys indicate that approximately one in seven women in the United States experience symptoms of PPD, highlighting the strength of this health condition.

The therapeutic protocol of the new medication consists of the daily intake of one pill over two weeks. According to the FDA, previously, this same treatment was only available in an intravenous version.

The milestone represents a more accessible and convenient alternative for women facing this condition, offering a promising path for managing this health issue.

Clinical trial results showed that the pill had a significant impact on reducing depressive symptoms after just three days of use.

Furthermore, as indicated by the FDA, the beneficial effects of the drug lasted for a period of four weeks after completing the last dose.

The FDA highlighted that the most common side effects associated with Zurzuvae include drowsiness, dizziness, diarrhea, fatigue, plus an increased susceptibility to colds or gastrointestinal complications urinary.

Pharmaceutical companies Sage Therapeutics and Biogen, responsible for the development of the new drug, said that the availability of the product is expected later this year.

So far, there has been no disclosure of the drug's price, and there is no forecast on the date on which it may be accessible in Brazil. For now, we celebrate this advancement of science for women's health!
