According to the latest news from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), a published new photo of Jupiter's moon Io — one of the planet's four large satellites.
The image was taken after the approach of the Juno spacecraft, on July 30th. The probe managed to reach 28,485 kilometers from the star, allowing the most detailed images recorded so far from the satellite.

In the official statement, through which it shared the new photos, NASA declared: “Not only the largest planet in our Solar System exerts a constant gravitational pull on Io, but also on its 'sisters'. (...) The result is that Io is constantly being twisted and stretched, actions associated with the creation of the lava that is seen gushing from its many volcanoes”.
In March of this year, the Juno spacecraft had already sent images from 51 thousand kilometers from the satellite – something that had not happened since 2006, during NASA's New Horizons Mission, which was heading towards Pluto.
Experts noticed differences and changes when comparing older and more recent images.
According to Jason Perry, who worked on images from the Cassini missions and Galileo, the changes are discreet, but noticeable when compared to the images of the missions.
“The first is a small stream from the eastern end of Girru East,” he shared. And he went further: “Red material on Io indicates the presence of S3-S4, short-chain sulfur, which needs to be cooled regularly through active volcanism and high temperature”, he explained.
The Juno probe has already performed more than 49 orbits around Jupiter, performing flybys over the moon Io. The catheter will continue on an extended mission through September 2025 and we will continue to receive new footage as missions progress. happen.
