When everyone thinks that all the ruins of the Pomegranate Ancient, we are surprised once again! Italian archaeologists have discovered a more than 2,000-year-old temple in Sarsina. The city is the birthplace of the playwright Plautus, in Emilia-Romagna.
“It is an important contribution to our understanding of the past and may have implications significant for historical and archaeological research", pointed out Gennaro Sangiuliano, Minister of Culture of Italy.

The ruins found have adjacent medieval structures and are in excellent condition. The temple has a quadrangular structure and, according to scholars, was probably built around the 1st century, before the Common Era.
In addition, the site has structures of horizontal rows of sandstone blocks. It is speculated that they would be support for the walls of the building, according to the typology that is characteristic of temples that existed in the Italian Peninsula at the time.
The most accepted thesis among archaeologists is that this would be a Capitolium. That is, a temple dedicated to Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. However, this is still a preliminary analysis. New studies will be carried out to try to identify more precise information about the ruins found.
According to a text published by Revista Galileo, in addition to the temple, an accompanying pavement was found, as well as a structure of large sandstone blocks called a podium.
Not to mention a drainage system, as well as evidence of another settlement. This would be even older, dating back to the 4th century BC. W.
As published by the Terra website, the temple will be officially presented to the public on September 23, on the European Heritage Day.
Gennaro Sangiuliano even treats the find as a “treasure” for Italy. “The ruins can offer precious information about the history of evolution [of the area where it was found]”, added the minister.
