Medium-sized, the black kite feeds on lizards, small mammals, birds and insects.
Normally, this species builds its nests on top of trees, cliffs or even on balconies of buildings and electricity poles.
In Brazil, it is a species called “vagante”, having a single recorded occurrence: an individual, which probably lost during the migration of the species between Europe and Africa, was observed in the São Pedro and São Paulo Archipelago in May 2014. Although more than a thousand kilometers away from the mainland, the archipelago is part of the Brazilian territory.
