This indicates progress in the adoption of generative AI in China and global competition in the field of chatbots.

Government approval now allows Baidu to expand the use of Ernie Bot, making it available to a wider audience, including consumers and businesses.

ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, is known for its ability to generate coherent and natural text.

Ernie Bot, now considered a competitor to ChatGPT, is also an AI-based text generation system, which probably aims to offer advanced interactions with users.

The availability of this tool could have a significant impact on the chatbot and AI market in China, as more companies and individuals adopt the technology for a variety of purposes.

Baidu won't be the only company to launch a chatbot

In China, to ensure the safety and compliance of AI products, companies are subject to rigorous assessments before they can make them available to the public.

Such assessments aim to verify whether products meet established security standards and whether they do not pose threats to users' privacy and security.

This is an important feature of the regulatory environment in China and reflects authorities' concern for cybersecurity and the protection of citizens' data.

Therefore, even after government approval, companies must comply with these assessments to ensure their AI products comply with required security standards.

In this sense, in addition to Baidu, four other Chinese companies also obtained approval from government authorities. These are SenseChat, Baichuan Intelligent Technology, Zhipu AI and MiniMax.

Is the short-lived ChatGPT empire being threatened by these new super-smart chatbots?
