The numbers revealed by a study by UOL Carros shed light on the growing wave of robberies and SUV thefts in the capital of São Paulo and the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo.
From January to August 2023, an impressive 5,950 cases were recorded, a significant increase compared to the same period in 2022, which recorded 4,345 occurrences.
The study also points out that the majority of these crimes occurred in the capital of São Paulo itself, representing 65% of the total in the Metropolitan Region and totaling 3,887 cases.
The city of São Paulo, which is the largest urban center in Brazil, presented worrying numbers of robberies and SUV thefts in the first eight months of 2023.
Some neighborhoods stand out for their incidence, including Tatuapé, which registered 174 cases, an impressive increase of 235% compared to 2022.
Other neighborhoods, such as Ipiranga (160 cases, up 62%), Água Rasa (130 cases, up 76%), Vila Prudente (116 cases, increase of 40%) and Vila Mariana (113 cases, increase of 30%) were also affected significantly.
Fernando Correia, operations coordinator at Ituran Brasil, reveals that, in the capital of São Paulo, the proportion of SUV thefts grew from 51.64% in 2022 to 56.83% in 2023.
These numbers alert to the need for more robust measures regarding the safety of these vehicles, highlighting the growing concern of SUV owners in the city.
