This machine is intended to support the company's employees, seeking to improve speed and safety in operations.
Sequoia is part of the retailer's broader strategy, which aims to increase the efficiency of its deliveries through investments in robotics and AI.
Sequoia, named after the native California trees, promises to significantly speed up the delivery process and improve worker safety.
Therefore, the goal is to optimize warehouse performance and improve the experience for Amazon customers.
According to the company, the equipment was designed to speed up order fulfillment by up to 25%, which allows Amazon to make products available for sale on its website more quickly.
Additionally, Sequoia is able to identify and store inventory up to 75% faster than previous methods.
It also contributes to faster availability of items on the website and helps predict delivery estimates.
In the system, products are transported by vehicles to containers that contain a variety of items to be processed and prepared for delivery.
Containers are routed to an advanced sorting machine equipped with small robotic arms and computer vision.
Such robotic arms have the ability to identify and manipulate items precisely, while computer vision enables the system to recognize objects.

After sorting in the machine, the boxes with the products are sent to an employee responsible for sorting customer orders.
In contrast to the previous system, in which screening was not automated and employees often had to collect orders manually, the new system is significantly more efficient.
Additionally, at Sequoia, containers are delivered at a more ergonomic height, in a waist-high position, which helps reduce the risk of injury to workers.
