The Minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet (MDB), announced that the government proposal for the minimum wage of 2024 is R$1,421, representing an increase of R$101 compared to the current floor of R$1,320. However, even with an increase, the value of the minimum wage is still far from what necessary for Brazilians to support their families in a dignified manner and have comfortable financial.

According to a survey carried out in October by the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies, (Dieese), the minimum wage necessary to support a family of four should have been R$ 6.210,11.
In September this year, this value rose to R$6,280.93, 4.76 times the current national minimum value. The calculation takes into account a family's fundamental expenses, such as housing, food, transportation, health, education and security.
As presented by Dieese, the average price of the basic food basket varies according to the capital in question. While the basic food basket can be purchased for R$521.96 in Aracaju (SE), the worker needs to pay R$739.21 to buy the same basic food basket in Porto Alegre (RS).
Taking into account the current minimum wage, the average working time to be able to purchase basic food basket products went from 105 hours and 02 minutes in September to 107 hours and 17 minutes in October.
When comparing the price of the basket and the net minimum wage, that is, after the 7.5% Social Security discount Social, the worker committed around 52.72% of his net salary to buy food in October 2023. In September, the commitment was 53.03%. Finally, in October 2022, the percentage was 58.78%.
