The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) seized 6,031 bottles of fake olive oil and 28 tons of bean with a high content of stones and impurities. The measure was taken during an inspection of factories and businesses in São Paulo. The task force took place between November 20th and 24th, with the aim of combating food fraud.

"O olive oil counterfeit represents a risk to the health of consumers, as it does not meet established quality standards. Adulteration of this product is a recurring practice, and is frequently subject to inspections to ensure authenticity and food security”, said Kleber Basso, head of the Regional Service for Advanced Surveillance and Combating Operations. Regarding beans, in addition to the high level of impurities, such as stones, soybeans were also found in the mixture. It is worth noting that the presence of impurities in beans puts the health of consumers at risk, in addition to compromising the integrity of the product.
“It is important to highlight that the undeclared presence of soy, an allergen, in products such as beans can pose health risks and, therefore, rapid intervention was necessary”, he stated. Basso. The packaging company responsible for the product was inspected and the establishment was ordered to comply with the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practices.
The recalled products will be subjected to analysis and the brands involved will only be disclosed after the publication of the definitive report. The action was coordinated by the Department of Inspection of Products of Plant Origin and included the participation of tax auditors federal agricultural agencies and agents of agricultural activities in São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Piauí, Federal District and Rio Grande do South.
