We are a few days away from the summer, which starts on December 21st. The hottest season of the year, despite being great for enjoying the beach and swimming, is marked by the return of the dengue mosquito, which arrives with everything when temperatures rise.
The dengue mosquito, or Aedes aegypti, is originally from Egypt and has been spreading across the planet since the 16th century, at the time of the Great Navigations. He arrived on the American continent during the colonial period, by means of ships that trafficked in slaves.
The first dengue epidemic in American lands happened in Peru, in the beginning of the 19th century, with outbreaks in other countries, such as Colombia and Venezuela. In Brazil, the first reports of the mosquito date from the end of the 19th century, in Curitiba (Paraná).
