Truth or myth?
The house mouse loves cheese as much as any other food it can take from its kitchen. The species is omnivorous: it eats all types of food of animal or vegetable origin. What happens, according to scientists, is that these animals are attracted to strong-smelling meals. So, it's easier for them to go after cheese, bacon, or milk than other odorless foods. But when they are hungry, rodents are up to everything!
And do you know what the difference is between rat and mouse? Both are rodents and the main difference between them is size. The rats, better known as roof rats, reach 19 centimeters in length, have a long, thin tail and climb very well (climb trees, wires and roofs).
The mice are small, reaching 7 centimeters in length. They live hidden in burrows built into walls, closets, boxes and other protected places. Because they don't like to walk, they make their burrows near a place with food.
In Brazil, rats are still common: larger, they reach 26 centimeters in length, live in sewers and cannot climb pipes, trees, gutters and other high places.
