The story takes place in the year 2700, when the Earth is surrounded by garbage on all sides, and becomes an uninhabitable place for living beings. The planet is abandoned by humans, but has one last occupant, the little robot that gives the film its title. In the story, he spends his days compacting and organizing the garbage created by humanity. Wall-e then gains the opportunity to have a new life and to meet the humans, who now live in the huge spaceship called the Axiom.
