NAME:

THE GNOMES AND THE SHOEMAN

He was once a shoemaker so poor, so poor, that he only had leather for a single pair of shoes. One night when he was about to start doing it, he felt tired. He just cut a strip of leather and left it to finish the job the next day.

In the morning, when he returned to his workshop table, he found the pair of shoes ready. He picked up each of the shoes and examined them, trying to find out who had made them, but he couldn't: it was a real mystery. It intrigued him even more that this pair of shoes was the most perfect he had ever seen.

The shoemaker was still standing there, thinking, a pair of shoes in his hand, when a customer walked into his shop. The man fell in love with the shoes and insisted on buying them immediately. Peter the shoemaker did not want to sell them; he first wanted to find out how they had appeared on his desk. But the customer offered him so much money for the shoes that he ended up agreeing to sell them.

Peter used the money to buy more leather. At night, he cut the material and went to bed.

The next day, the same thing happened: the shoes appeared ready-made and then a customer came who bought them at a very high price.

And so, the days passed and the shoemaker became richer and richer. Until Heidi, his wife, suggested:

─ We need to find out what's going on! Instead of going to sleep, let's hide behind the door and peek.

At midnight on the dot, two graceful gnomes appeared, completely naked. They sat down at Peter's desk so quickly that he and his wife couldn't see the movements of their hands.

Heidi was delighted with the gnomes:

─ They helped us, now we're rich! ─ said. ─ But the two little men are cold! That's not fair! I'll sew pretty clothes for them.

And so they did. That night they put the clothes next to the leather, and hid. The little men loved the gift.

From that day on, the two gnomes never came back, but Peter, Heidi and their children lived happily ever after.
