Hypertensive and salt

Salt should not be released into food, as it makes it difficult to control high blood pressure and may even aggravate it. This is because it enhances the body's water retention.

The recommendations are around 2 to 3g of salt per day, and this corresponds to less than a teaspoon of salt, including the salt in food and that used in its preparation. This dietary item is often the most difficult to follow, as processed foods are high in salt. See two examples:

  • 2 slices of ham = 1.5 d of salt
  • 6 crackers of water and salt = 0.85 d of salt
