This is a very old tradition. Drawings made by the ancient Egyptians show people wearing, on that same finger, a ring that symbolized the marriage union. They believed that a vein directly connected to the heart passed through the left ring finger and considered the circular shape of the ring to be a symbol of eternity. Although it is known that there is no direct connection with the heart, the custom has remained and even today many people who marry wear a ring on their left ring finger, as a symbol of love and commitment to union throughout the life.
