How did the colored pencils come about?

The first records of the pencil are from 1565 in Great Britain, in which the pencil was two pieces of wood with graphite in the middle and were handcrafted. A little later, they began to mix clay with graphite and, in 1795, the French chemist Nicholas Jacques Conté developed for the pencil a mixture of clay, graphite and water. In 1839, the German Johann Faber created a machine to produce pencils with a wooden cover, making them very similar to those we know today. After these evolutions, they started to add waxes, resins, glues and pigments to the pencil mixture and, in this way, the colored pencil emerged.
