Teacher (a) to explore reading strategies, we will focus on the before, during and after stages. For that, we will use the text “Negrinho do Pastoreio” which should be read according to the suggested strategies.
By Thais Pacievitch
According to legend, a long time ago, in Rio Grande do Sul, there was a very rich farmer, who had a lot of evil in his heart. The black boy from the shepherd was a slave of this farmer. The farmer was a lot of work for Negrinho, who was underfed. The boy said that his godmother, Our Lady, appeared to help him
One day the boss bet a horse race with a neighbor who claimed to have a faster horse. They sent the black boy to train and assemble the famous baio. After the bets were placed, the race began. The horses stayed together for most of the course. Negrinho knew what would be beaten if he didn't win.
Gradually he took the lead and there was little doubt of victory. But something startled the horse, which reared up and nearly knocked Negrinho down. It was enough for the opponent to overtake and win the race. The farmer, furious, had to cover his bets.
When they returned to the farm, Negrinho was in a hurry to save the horse, but the farmer said he would have a punishment: the black boy would spend thirty days and thirty nights with the losing horse in the pasture and take care of another 30 horses. Not only that, the farmer gave him thirty lashes
Days later, Negrinho decided to pray to Our Lady and fell asleep. The horses broke free. Negrinho woke with a start, and when he noticed the horses fleeing, he sat up and cried.
The farmer's son was nearby and, seeing everything, out of spite, he went to tell his father about the escape. The farmer sent other slaves to fetch the boy. The boy even tried to explain to the farmer, but to no avail.
He was tied to the trunk and flogged by his boss. After the beating, the farmer sent him to look for the horses. Negrinho found the horses and tied them, lay down on the ground to rest.
The farmer's son, seeing this, did a new evil: he released the horses and then ran back to his father and told him that Negrinho had found the horses, but let them escape.
The boss tied him by the wrists and hit him more than ever.
Negrinho prayed to Our Lady and fainted from the pain. Thinking that he had killed him, you did not know what to do with the body and, seeing a huge anthill, threw it there.
The next day, the farmer, curious to see the boy's body, went to the anthill. He saw him standing, smiling beside Our Lady. Around him were the lost horses. The boy
he mounted one of them and left with thirty horses behind.
Even today, in some parts of the country, when people lose something, they light a candle for Negrinho from the shepherd, believing that the boy will help find the lost object.

Teacher, before reading the text “The Lion and the Rat”, you can launch some questions to survey the class's prior knowledge.
A mouse was about to be devoured by a hungry cat when a passing lion, moved by its despair, scared the cat away. Recovered from the fright, the mouse thanked:
– Thank you so much for saving my life, Your Majesty. You are the king of the forest and you would not need to worry about such an insignificant being as me. But one day I will return this favor to you.
The lion, who hadn't done that with the reward in mind, went on his way:
– Poor little mouse, how could he return a favor to the king of beasts?
The next day, the lion was walking distractedly when he stepped on an extended net to trap him. As soon as he got his paw into the trap, the net closed over his body.
– Alas. I will stay here all night until the hunters arrive and kill me without pity or pity.
Behold, your friend is passing by on the road. When he saw the lion in that situation, he immediately volunteered:
- It's now that I'll return the favor you did me. And he began to gnaw the ropes until he freed the lion from the hunters' net.

Dear Diary, I no longer doubt that this world is turned inside out! I went into town yesterday with my mother and you have no idea what I saw. Something horrible, horrifying, lurid, scary, sad, strange, different, inhuman… And I was upset.
I saw a man, a human being, just like us, rummaging through the garbage can. And do you know what he was looking for? He was looking for food scraps in the garbage. He was looking for food!
Dear Diary, how can this be? Someone rummaging through a can full of filthy things and pulling out something to eat? That's how it was, just the way I'm telling you. He put a pile of food that a restaurant had thrown away in a huge plastic bag. Aarghh!!! It must be horrible!
But the man seemed quite pleased to have found those remains. At the same time, dear Diary, I looked at my mother, terrified. She understood my amazement. I turned to her and asked, "Mom, is that man going to eat that?" Mom nodded, then continued, "See, do you understand why I get mad when you complain about the food?" It is true! I often refuse to eat chayote, okra, zucchini and pumpkin. And I dropped a bunch of cabbage on the plate twice, which I hate! Oh dear! I felt so embarrassed! Seeing that scene, I still remembered Dust, our dog. Nor does he eat food like the one the man took from the garbage. Funny, dear Diary, our dog lives much better than that man. There's something wrong with this story, don't you think?
How can a human being eat junk food and my dog eat clean food? How can you, dear Diary, be treated like people and people living like animals? That night I prayed that God would soon fix this world. It never fails. And he never fails to take my orders. Just like that, I managed to fall asleep a little happier.
