Any element can be represented numerically as a unit, more specifically with the number 1. If we divide this unit into 10 parts, each of them will be the tenth part or a decimal number, which we can represent numerically as 0.1. So if we multiply 0.1 by 10 we have one unit. In other words, the decimal number is a value that is related between 0 and 1. This means that all numbers to the right of 0 followed by a dot represent a quantity less than one and those numbers represent the decimal part. In this way, we have the whole numbers (1, 2, 3…) and the decimal numbers (0.1; 0,2; 0,3…).
Decimal numbers express a part of something (may also be called a fraction) and that part can be counted in any mathematical operation. Thus, if we have a whole pie and three more portions of another one, we will express this reality numerically through the following result: 1+0.3 = 1.3. …
