directly from Bonito

Currently, scientists from Brazil, France, Australia and the United States are setting up large experiments in the municipality of Bonito, Mato Grosso do Sul. The work of this group is part of the Long Term Ecological Program (PELD). They will surround areas of vegetation to prevent the entry of large animals (tairs, jaguars, deer and others) and observe what happens in these places years later. They are also fencing the bottom of nearby streams to see what would happen to the rivers if fish in the area disappeared.

Another part of the research is to prevent some plants from receiving rain to predict the effect of drought in the region. What will happen to the animals, the plants and the environments where they live? Imagine what a drier place would be and, worse, without these animals walking, swimming, eating or pooing or peeing... Researchers assume that this new situation will cause changes in the vegetation, in the amount of seeds and native fruits, change the amount of material deposited in the soil and rivers, in addition to messing with the life of small beings that depend on manure and debris vegetable.

But in science it is not enough to just imagine these or other results. It is necessary to have data to confirm these suspicions.
