The Brazilian Flag has a rectangular shape and is composed of a green base overlaid by a yellow diamond and a circle. blue, in the middle of which is crossed a white strip with the national motto (Ordem e Progresso), in capital letters green.

The expression Order and Progress is the political motto of positivism, and is an abbreviated form of the motto authored by French positivist Auguste Comte: “Love by principle and Order per base; O Progress Lastly".
