O alphabet or as it is also called “Abecedário” can be defined by a set of letters in which we form several words, which form our language (Portuguese language), but how many letters is in the alphabet?
O alphabet or alphabet of the Portuguese language is formed by 26 letters (twenty-six) and that can be represented both with uppercase and lowercase letters.
IMPORTANT:It is also worth remembering that the ce-cedilha (ç) is not a letter. It is formed by the joining of a diacritical sign – the cedilla – to the letter c.

Consonants are phonemes (sounds) that encounter obstacles while passing through the vocal tract. To be pronounced, consonants need the lips, teeth, tongue, palate, soft palate, uvula or any other obstacle found in the vocal tract.
Vowel it is every phoneme in whose emission the air passes freely through the mouth (or also through the nose), without obstruction. This is also how the letters that represent the vowel sounds are called.
We cannot forget the three letters of the alphabet that are used in writing foreign names and words: K, W, Y.
