The importance of play in early childhood education
It is essential that children have space to discover themselves, in contact with you and exploring their surroundings. In this school context, our challenge as educators is to mediate by creating situations (Activities and proposals) so that the child feels at ease in developing my creative side and exploring their own world.
With thematic and playful workshops, collective picnics, games with children, mediating playful activities. Playful interactions between children or between children and adults “promote the link between generations through the transmission of values and culture, providing joy and pleasure”.
The toy, seen as an object, as a support for play, allows the child to create, imagine and represent reality and the experiences acquired by it. It provides the child's creation, a creation that is the result of his imagination.
The educator is the one who creates opportunities, offers materials and participates in the games, mediating the construction of knowledge. The use of playful materials in the classroom can contribute to developing learning in a more creative, pleasurable and sociable way.
Playing is an important psychological process, a source of development and learning. It involves complex processes of articulation between the already given and the new, between experience, memory and imagination, between reality and fantasy, being marked as a particular form of relationship with the world, distancing itself from the reality of ordinary life, even in it referenced. Play is of fundamental importance for child development, as the child can transform and produce new meanings. Playing not only requires a lot of learning, it is also a learning space. As Machado points out (2003, p.37).
