Decide together where each will receive the students. The suggestion is that the management team stay at the gate to greet not only the children and young people but also the parents who usually accompany their children to school. Teachers can wait for students at the classroom door. Arrange with support staff that they position themselves in the hallways and in places where they can help to inform the location of each class or to guide the way to the restrooms, the drinking fountain etc. and other questions that students may have.
Reflect with teachers on the importance of introducing new students to others before work begins. Ask teachers to encourage the child to talk a little about himself, his background and his relationship with studies. Then everyone can tell what they did during their vacation. Teachers can contribute by giving ideas for organizing this moment and presenting ways to do this. Examples: Each student can tell about something they learned on vacation, a place they visited, a story they read or watched. Among older people, it is also interesting to talk about their plans for the year, which may include a course or an extra activity or studying for the entrance exam.
Also reinforce the importance of support and administrative staff being receptive to everyone and especially solicitous with those who do not yet know the facilities and routine of the unit. Study the hypothesis that the first-year class – in which everyone must be new – take a tour of the school with stops in each sector for a person in charge of the area to explain the functioning of the canteen, library, secretariat, etc. Some schools schedule classes to start on different days for every three or four classes so that all employees pay attention to everyone's arrival.
