I grew up knowing what it is to be an immigrant: since I was little, I heard the story of my grandmother, who survived the Holocaust and moved to Argentina. I, born in South America, lived for some time in Israel, where I met organizations that helped refugees and low-income immigrants through microcredit – a little financial help so that new ventures can take off. When I moved to Brazil, I decided to do something similar. That's how, in 2015, Migraflix was born: a non-profit organization that allows immigrants to take workshops and get paid for it. Citizens from various countries, such as Syria, Peru, Bolivia, Morocco and Haiti, have already participated, giving music, gastronomy and dance classes, among other topics. The rent serves as a supplement to your budgets. In the future, each immigrant earns at least one minimum wage. We have already managed to carry out more than 70 workshops with around 40 teachers. In addition to São Paulo, we were in Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Curitiba and Rio de Janeiro. These experiences show that the most important gesture when receiving an immigrant is to open your arms. Only then can these people feel confident to start over their lives and contribute positively to society.
