The Tufo squirrel, from the neighboring forest, was very well known in Sítio das Lucíolas, as he always came to play with the rats.
– Quick, friends! – he said as soon as he arrived, all flustered. – I need you to help me. I lost almost all my chestnut reserve!
- Again! – sighed the rats. – How clumsy you are! Come on, follow us, let's dig through the usual hiding places...
Embarrassed but confident, Tufo followed the rats everywhere: in the old shed, in the stable and even in the doghouse! But they didn't find a single nut crumb. Tufo thanked his friends and returned to his tree, very disappointed.
Tufo was eating a few chestnuts when one of the last ones escaped his paws.
- There! - Shouted a doe that was passing by. - What is this?
- You do not know? – replied the squirrel, descending from his branch. – It's my favorite dish! It's a delicious, juicy chestnut! Too bad it's the last… I don't know where I kept the others…
The doe looked at that strange fruit and said proudly:
– I saw a lot of her there!
- Where? At where? - Rejoiced Tufo.
– In a tree with a hole, which is behind a fence. I can take you there if you like!
Tufo was mad with joy! He jumped on the doe's back, which ran to the treasure.
- Thank you very much! - Said the squirrel with a mouth full of chestnuts. - Without you, I would not have found my food.
