This is a fish, the catfish. It is completely depigmented, with no color whatsoever. It lives in underground rivers and flooded caves during the rainy season, although it can survive for months in isolated puddles. He likes to swim and explore the rocky bottom in search of invertebrates and organic remains. It is the main predator in the Serra da Bodoquena aquifers.
Males measure from five to eight centimeters in length, while females reach up to 10 centimeters. He is blind, but he has the biggest “whiskers” (barbels) of the family to which he belongs, the trichomycterids. Whiskers make it easy to find prey. Therefore, the T. from there earned the scientific name, a tribute to the Spanish painter Salvador Dali, who also had long mustaches as a trademark.
