In the study that evaluated about 12,500 species of Brazilian fauna between 2010 and 2014, 874 vertebrate species were officially recognized as threatened, as follows: 110 mammal species, 234 birds, 80 reptiles, 41 amphibians, 353 bony fish (310 freshwater and 43 marine), 55 cartilaginous fish (54 marine and one freshwater) and one hagfish. In addition, invertebrates were also evaluated, which contain over 223 terrestrial and 66 aquatic species.
Dividing these species into risk categories, we have: 448 Vulnerable species (VU), 406 Endangered (EN), 318 Critically Endangered (CR) and 1 Extinct in the Wild (EW).
