On the way, he encountered two men, only these men were thieves who used to steal all the travellers' goods and money. They introduced themselves as merchants and soon became friends with the rich merchant.
After traveling some distance, the merchant and the thieves came to a stopping point. There the thieves decided to rob the merchant, but one of the thieves wanted to take everything the other thief had. So he mixed poison into the other thief's food. Only the second thief also wanted to take everything from his thief partner, so he also mixed poison in the first thief's food.
When the two thieves ate the food they both died. In this way, his merchant and his goods were saved from the thieves and he also got the valuable goods that the thieves carried.
