NAME:
Once upon a time there was a red-haired hen, who lived with her chicks on a farm.
One day she found some corn cobs and thought that if she sowed it and when it was ripe, ready to be harvested, it could become good food.
The red-haired hen had the idea of making a delicious corn bread. Everyone would like it!
It was a lot of work: she needed a lot of corn for bread.
Who could help sow the corn?
Who could help pick the cob of corn in the foot?
Who could help thresh all that corn?
Who could help grind corn to make cornmeal for bread?
It was with this in mind that the red-haired hen found her friends:
– Who can help me sow corn to make delicious bread?
– Not me, said the cat. I'm too sleepy.
– Not me, said the dog. I'm very busy.
– Not me, said the pig. I just had lunch.
– I didn't say the cow. It's time to play outside.
The hen sowed, harvested, threshed, ground, kneaded and baked bread alone.
That good smell of bread was making friends arrive. Everyone's mouth watered.
Then the red hen said:
– Who helped me harvest the corn, prepare the corn, to make the bread?
Everyone was very quiet. (No one had helped.)
– So who will eat the delicious corn bread is me and my chicks. You can continue to rest looking.
And so it was: the hen and her chicks enjoyed the party, and none of the slackers were invited.
