DNA studies have helped scientists to clarify doubts about the species to which several animals belong. One example is the four-eyed cuícas (Philander Frenatus and Philander opossum), which occur in Brazil and are differentiated almost only by their DNA.
For a long time it was believed that they belonged to the same species. However, after analyzing the genetic material of the animals, researchers saw that there were significant differences and ended up separating them into two species.
