A traveler was resting in the shade of a tree. When he woke up, he noticed that his horse was gone. So he took his staff and went to a village nearby. There he gathered the people in the streets and said aloud:
– Someone stole my horse. Whoever did this has to return my horse or I'll do what I did the last time my horse was stolen.
And then he slammed his staff to the ground.
The villagers were terrified to hear the angry traveler's words, as was the thief, who was standing in the crowd. He immediately took the horse and gave it to the traveller.
After returning the horse, the thief said:
“Now that I've returned your horse, may I ask: what did you do the last time your horse was stolen?
The traveler looked at him and said:
- Why, I bought a new horse!
The thief was completely astonished.
