Vines have aerial stems, but they do not develop without the help of another plant, that is, a host.
Most vines do not remove substance from their hosts, that is, they do not harm them. They just support each other to grow in search of sunlight. Typically, the slender stems of vines wrap around the branches (or other structures) of the host to reach the top.
