Among the spider monkeys, males and females are equal, one does not dominate the other. Even physically, they are similar, being possible to differentiate them just by observing the genitals. They like to eat vegetables and feed mainly on fruits and leaves in large quantities.
An interesting feature of this species is the fact that males remain in the parent group throughout their lives, favoring the construction of strong bonds between them, while the females migrate to another group when they approach the adolescence. The first pregnancy occurs between eight and nine years of age and the gestation period lasts an average of seven months, usually only one offspring is born. Births occur every three years and the mother breastfeeds and transports the baby through the forest until he reaches two years of age. But, the son still depends on his mother for other activities until he reaches the age of three.
