A coat, a hat, a magnifying glass and a pipe in the corner of his mouth. This is how detectives are featured in many cartoons. The inspiration comes from Sherlock Holmes, a character created by Scottish doctor and writer Arthur Conan Doyle in the 19th century. Sherlock became a literary star, perhaps because he was the first detective in history to use the scientific method to solve the most curious and difficult crimes imagined by his creator.
Certainly, it was also Sherlock who started the so-called forensic science, a specialty that to this day is used by Justice to reach a criminal, through clues left by him or her at the location of a crime.
