Bullet train

Have you ever heard of the bullet train? It is a high-speed transport, which reaches more than 300 kilometers per hour. So fast, this train can reach its destination before a plane. Brazil will build its first high-speed train line, connecting São Paulo to Rio de Janeiro. The government wants everything ready for the 2016 Olympics.

The first high-speed train was built in Italy before World War II. The route was from Milan to Naples, passing through some of the most important cities in the country. It reached speeds of over 200 kilometers per hour. The war stopped the development of the lines and destroyed many trains.

However, high-speed trains earned the nickname bullet train in Japan because of the train's shape and speed. The front is elongated, resembling a bullet (firearm ammunition). The country's first high-speed railroad was completed in 1964, in time for the Tokyo Olympics. Being in an area where many people live, the train proved to be economically viable since its inception.
