The Greeks are considered the fathers of democracy and philosophy. At school, we also learned that they were responsible for the development of some sciences, such as medicine and mathematics. In your classes, have you ever heard of the Pythagorean theorem? Well, Pythagoras was a great Greek mathematician.
Numbers, therefore, were also used by this ancient civilization. About 3,300 years ago, the Greeks made some modifications to the numbering system they used, in which numbers were represented by the initial letters of their names. From the changes, a new numerical system emerged, in which all the letters of the Greek alphabet plus three letters of the Phoenician alphabet were used as numeral symbols.
