Lilo (Daveigh Chase) is a 5-year-old little Hawaiian girl who loves taking care of underprivileged animals and lives with her sister Nani (Tia Carrere). Lilo has the habit of collecting recyclable garbage on the beaches, with the money received, buying food for fish and swimming to the high seas to feed them. Until, one day, she finds a dog and decides to adopt him. However, that dog is actually Stitch (Chris Sanders), an alien being who is one of the most dangerous criminals in the galaxy. Stitch was arrested on a distant planet by the interplanetary police, but upon being sent to a prison planet he manages to escape, accidentally landing on Earth. Now, to escape the police who are still chasing him, Stitch hides four of his six legs and decides to pass himself off as an ordinary dog, eventually developing a bond of friendship with Lilo.
