Females reach 5 meters in height and males can exceed 6 meters.
Its neck is also quite long, reaching 2 meters. Many people think that giraffes have a lot of bones in their necks, but this is not true. They have only seven vertebrae, just like humans, but they are quite long vertebrae.
Its tongue reaches 50 centimeters and is prehensile, that is, the giraffe can move the tip, using it to pick up leaves and shoots from trees, which it loves to eat. He can also clean his nostrils with his tongue. It's kind of gross, but quite effective.
Its long legs are very strong. Giraffes kick to defend themselves with great power. Kicks can break a lion's skull.
The mother giraffe is 15 months pregnant. At the time of birth, she does not lie on the floor. The puppy falls from a height of 2 meters! But he doesn't get hurt, as the African savannah grass cushions his fall. He is also born with plenty of cartilage, which helps protect his bones from breaking. After only 20 minutes, she is already on her feet and is able to follow her mother. Compare with a human! How long does it take for a child to start walking alone? This is important for the puppy's survival. Twenty minutes is the ideal time for him and the mother giraffe to leave the birthplace – the smell of blood and placental debris can attract predators.
