With up to 50 meters in height, straight and cylinder-shaped trunk, the araucaria has pointed leaves and dry flowers. Considered a long-lived tree, it can live from 200 to 300 years. Thus, flowering is also delayed: the first normally occurs between 12 and 15 years after planting the seed.
Unlike the female araucarias, which bloom all year round, the flowers of the male trees appear between the months of August and January. Fruit maturation occurs between April and May, the beginning of the pine nut season.
