The chance is small, as the options for places for lightning strike are great. But this can happen, especially in places that make it easy to connect the ground to the cloud, where electrical charges build up, such as the ends of electrically conducting objects. Thus, lightning rods, buildings and trees can be hit more than once. Another example is monuments that are located in high places. Christ the Redeemer, in Rio de Janeiro, is hit every year by about six rays!
